Glider aircraft- All you must know

Hello, my dear co-pilot!! Fasten your seat, for we are about to take off in our very own glider. As the name suggests, glider aircraft flies by gliding across the atmosphere. Interesting isn’t it? Most of the gliders do not have an engine. Yes, you heard me right. Aren’t you curious to know why? Let’s find out!

Glider aircraft

Gliders without engines!

The dynamic reaction of the air against the direction of the forces that lift the aircraft develops a free flight without the necessity of an engine. The aircraft that fly on this principle are called gliders.  They have the power of self-launching. Some motor-glider types have a small engine fitted for sustaining the altitude and maintaining it.  They have all the standard parts of an aircraft, construction, and controls but no engine. Therefore to fly, gliders generate a lift opposite to their weight.  The glide of the glider in the sky is also called drag.

Three basic forces frame the 3 pillars of aerodynamics namely thrust, drag, and lift. To frame it in simple words, thrust accelerates the airplane forward, and drag kind of holds it back. While lift supports the aircraft to stay airborne. To know more check out detailed blogs on all of them.

The idea of gliders

Early age history right from the 17th century traces records of people flying gliders. Initially, people failed and broke their backbone. Later in the 19th century, the heavier-than-air balloon came into action. After which a series of people experimented with their hands-on gliders. Finally, the wright brothers attempted and succeeded in the design and operation of gliders. Every technology keeps processing likewise gliders saw a wide variety of changes. The changes in the construction of wings and the structure. The gliders soared into their paths into research and development. Military gliders were used to carry heavy loads and weapons during the Second World war. The field of rocket science also implemented the concept of gliders to produce glider rockets.
