Among the cities that were selected for the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation(AMRUT) scheme, kavali was one of them. Kavali is the second largest city of Nellore situated on the east coast of India in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The town is governed by the kavali Municipal Corporation under the instructions of the chief minister, Adala Prabhakara Reddy.  

The town covers approximately an area of 22.55per kilometer square with an average elevation of 20 meters. The population of the town is nearly 90,009 with an average density of 4000 per kilometer square. It is located at a distance of 8 kilometers from the Bay of Bengal. 

The name of the town kavali means patrol. This name originates from the fact that in 1515, the king of Udaygiri, Harihara Rayulu stationed his army in the same place. It is also known as KanakaPatnam which means ‘wealth will flow in this place and has numerous wealthy individuals. This name was coined by Potuluri Veerabrahmendra Swami.

The people of this place are usually indulged in the trading of clothes including hosiery as well as wholesale readymade garments. From running a small store of garments to huge factories of manufacturing clothes, everything can be witnessed in this town. Another important occupation of this place is agriculture income. It is a local hub as well as a major market for agricultural products. One of the most spectacular agencies found in this place is Prasad Agencies which deals in fertilizers and Agro Chemicals and has completed more than 50 years of trading.

The town connects Chennai and Kolkata through NH 5 highway. It is also supported by a well-maintained railway line which makes it feasible for the people of different cities such as Banglore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Guntar to move from one place to another.

The mother tongue of the locals is Telugu. Kavali has many prominent educational institutions which is the reason one can find many students of diverse cultures. The staple food of the region is seafood and rice since it shares the border with water bodies. Bonda is a very famous dish of this place which people usually have as the breakfast in the morning.
