Scope Clause and Regional jets

Regional jets in the US and Canada are limited by a condition called the scope clause. An agreement is in place between major airlines and the union of pilots to limit the number and size of regional aircraft. The pay for a regional pilot is lower than that of the major airline pilots due to the same clause. Hence, the airlines use the major plane routes while the regional jets use the ordinarily operated routes to reduce the pay.
