What is Rocket – Tracing back the history of Rocket | CCT

Rockets

The word rocket appeared in the 17th Century. The improvement in technology in the 1920s came up with the idea of launching rockets into space.

Rocket enthusiasts assemble! Hello, my dear rocket scientist!! Reading glasses on for we are about to dive in deep about rockets. Passengers aboard your seats, for we are about to take off in rocket speed into space.

Have you ever watched a rocket launch and wondered why is there so much exhaust and fire coming out? Why do certain parts of the rocket fall back after reaching a certain distance? To know why come let’s find out!

The answer to the question: What is a rocket?

The word rocket owes its origin to the Italian word, rocchetto meaning “bobbin” or “little spindle”. The rocket engine is the main part of the rocket spacecraft that provides enough thrust for the projectile. The propellent or the rocket fuel inside the rocket is combusted and is emitted as exhaust. The action and reaction explained by Newton’s 3rd law, explains the whole working of rockets. The combusted exhaust coming out of the rockets propel the rocket upward in the opposite direction at very high speeds projecting the rockets into the vacuum.

Tracing back history

How we used to make paper rockets and project them with our friends during school times! Nostalgic isn’t it? In the thirteenth century, the Song dynasty has evolved with the discovery of nourishing rockets.

The Mongolians then adapted this method of powering rockets and used it in the Middle Eastern invasions. The medieval time then witnessed an era of gun powdered rockets and books have been found that describe 107 methods to make gunpowder recipes out of which 22 of them are for making rockets.

After World War ll Americans captured many rocket scientists and they were empowered in making rockets that would propel into space. In 1969, the first crewed landing on the Moon. They used equipment launched by the Saturn V rocket.

What are the Components of a rocket:

A rocket consists of an amazing propellant tank, so we all know where the propellents are or the rocket. One or more rocket engines empower the aircraft or the spacecraft.

The structure is unique to accommodate these components and produce enough thrust. The nose cone of the propellant has held some of the payloads. The rocket wings, parachutes, rocket wheels also seatbelts are part of its components. All these components are together responsible for launching the rocket into the air.
