West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first.
With senior players rested in the team. India had a new opening pair, Dhawan and Gill. The left-right combination gave a good start for the team with 119 runs for the opening wicket. Gill was dismissed by runout when he guided the ball to the leg side(India vs West Indies).
Shreyas and Dhawan trying to build a partnership, but Dhawan 97(99) loses concentration trying to play the cut shot giving his wicket in the covers. Team India had a chance to score above 350 but the dismissal of Shreyas 54(57) slowed down the Indian innings. At the end of 50, India scored 308/6 Motie and Joseph picked 2 wickets each.
After losing the early wicket of the opener at 16. Meyer’s 75(68) and Brooks 46(61) stood steady and developed the partnership adding 117 for the second wicket. Even though the middle-order batsman pooran 25(26), and King 54(66) tried to move up the scoreboard.
Yet the dismissal of the batsman put pressure on lower-order batsmen. Hosein 32(32) and Shepherd 39(25) couldn’t help to chase the target. An extraordinary last over from Siraj defending 14 runs, helped India beat the west indies by 3 runs and lead the series 1-0.
2nd ODI-July 24 2022 Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Shai Hope 115(135) has shown his batting skills making a century supported by Mayers 39(23) and Brooks 35(36). Also a cameo by Pooran at the end of 74(77) west indies put a total of 311/6 at 50 overs(India vs West Indies). Thakur picked 3 wickets for team India.
India didn’t get a good start when Dhawan was dismissed for 13 runs. Gill 43(49) once again fails to convert into a big total. Also, Shreyas 63(71) and Samson 54(51) had a decent partnership to put India in a fighting position. Deepak Hooda 33(36) and Axar 64(35)* enabled India to chase down the target with 2 wickets to spare.
3rd ODI 27 July 2022 Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
With a rain-delayed match and overs reduced to 36. India won the toss and opted to bat first.
Dhawan 58(74) and Gill 98(98)* gave a good solid for India of 113 runs. After Dhawan’s dismissal, Shreyas 44(34) and Gill moved the scoreboard faster. At end of 36, India scored 225/3(India vs West Indies)
When Siraj dismissed number 2 and 3 batsmen without making them score runs. Hope 22(33) and king 42(37) tried to build a partnership but Chahal gave the breakthrough. Pooran 42(32) was dismissed by Prasdih when he tried to go big. Then soon the next batsmen went back to the pavilion with a single-digit score. Chahal took 4 wickets and India won the match by 119 runs and win the ODI series 3-0
A good clinical and all-around performance from the team India helped to win the series. But India should focus on the middle order and lower order to fire up in the tough situation.
West Indies showed up their efforts but couldn’t help but only 3 players performed well in the ODI series. Slog over bowling became a question mark for them.
India vs West Indies 4th T20I highlights
The complete dominance of spinners taking all the ten to clinch the victory for team India and winning the series 4-1.
The bench strength of the team in India is found to be strong. Every player played fearless cricket without worrying about failure. In this series, India tried a new opening pair Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar Yadav opened the innings in four matches and got a decent result. Surya Kumar Yadav jumped to rank two in the T20 batting order. With a brilliant performance in the third match at slow track shows his skills to be an important T20 player for team India in the upcoming world cup.
Few matches, middle-order batsmen have struggled to score runs. Shreyas, Hooda, and Pant if they fire up together in middle India could put a big total on the board. These three batsmen had a steady run-scoring ability in this series rotating the strike and putting the opponent bowlers under pressure.
Moreover, the finishing slot is open Dinesh Karthik, and Hardik Pandya were the batsmen said to play the finishing role. Hardik Pandya’s presence is a big boost for the team his batting and bowling skills along with Jadeja will help team India. when they both failed Axar Patel stepped up and finished the game for the team India.
The round performance by Axar got a spotlight for team India T20 world cup selection. The new bowling unit with the lead of senior bowler Bhuveneswar Kumar. Arshdeep Singh with the change of pace bowling picked 6 wickets in the T20 series. Avesh Khan had a tough game bowling a last over and made an unnecessary mistake by bowling a no-ball and conceding six which took the victory for team west indies. But in the next game releasing the mistake bowled a good economic spell and took important wickets. Kuldeep Yadav, Aswin, Bishnoi the spin unit were destructive. Moreover, the bench strength of team India was strong and it has produced extraordinary talented players to team India.
West Indies had known for hard skills and pace bowling but in this series, there is no intent shown by the players. When the openers scores run, the middle and lower middle order fails. This continues in vice versa. Bowlers struggle to stop runs in the slog overs. No support from the spinners to control the runs in the middle. There are a lot of questions roaming around the West Indies team to find their way back if they get then others know about who they are.
India had shown a dominant performance in the west indies tour even though the few senior players had rested. The comeback of players will have a strong unit heading to the Asia cup and the upcoming South Africa series which helps the selection committee to pick a strong team.
