Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai is famous for the love people show to others, Elegance of sea waves in marina beach even more beyond the craze they express towards sports is tongue-tied. This is about one of the most famous stadiums in Chennai. 

History of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Chennai:

It was built in 1993, owned by the Government of Tamil Nadu. It was named by Congress when they built 19 stadiums and named it with Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. They named this ground Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. Earlier it was called a corporation stadium in the 1980s.

Facilities of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Chennai:

It was a multi-purpose stadium used for football Athletics, volleyball, basketball, tennis and concert functions, synthetic track fields. The outdoor capacity of 40000 and the indoor capacity of 5000 people. 

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (also known as the Marina Arena) is a multipurpose stadium in Chennai, India. It can seat 40,000 people.

Located in the area near the old madras zoo behind the Ripon building.

Renovation of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Chennai:

The stadium needed International standards to set up a mark of our players’ efficiency. The stadium went on a 3-time renovation under the chief minister period of Selvi J.Jayalalithaa during her ruling period 1993,2012,2013 over 891 crore rupees were spent on this stadium.

During the initial time 1956-1965, the stadium had 9 test matches in which India had won only 2 matches where 3 drawn remaining matches were won by the visitors.1959 west indies defeated India by 295 runs on January 21-26 was the highest margin victory by foreigners. In 1955 India defeated New Zealand by innings and 109 runs on January 6-11 in this match Indian openers made a record-breaking partnership of 413 for 1st wicket Mankad with 231 runs, Pankaj Roy 173. Vijay Manjrekar was the highest run-getter in this stadium scoring 487 runs. Bapu Nadkarni with 20 wickets best bowling figures.12 five-wicket haul happened in test matches in which 5 was taken by Indian bowlers Subhash Gupta 72/5 in 1956 was the first one Bapu Nadkarni 91/6 1in 1964 the last to happen in this ground.  

Football in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Chennai:

Chennai is famous for its huge festivity in the corporation stadium when the football association president of TamilNadu CR Vishwanath brings the Nehru International cup tournament to Chennai. After a renovation in 1993, it turned out to be a football stadium conducting league matches and athletic matches were made up here. It has hosted SAF football games.

In 2018 they went on a quest for maintaining poor conditioning of the ground, the green lush turned to brown when Chennaiyin football club spent 1.54cr on this ground for a season. The Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu (SDAT) explained it’s due to very hot weather conditions. But it’s all due to their carelessness, which created a setback for them not to host the International match in the first half of the season because of the impoverished condition of the ground. Later clearing the issues in the field they went to play home team matches here.
