Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) was inaugurated during the year 2016. Administered by Tamilnadu cricket association.
Tamil Nadu Premier League‘s Selection Process
Players who played well in the state, district matches, and players registered in TNCA will be getting a chance to play in TNPL.
Bidding
Eight bidders were called by TNCA to participate in the auction for the team. The base price for a team is set as 1.25cr for 10 years TNCA earned 33.51cr at the end of the auction.
Inauguration
MS Dhoni the former Captain of the team India inaugurated the season in Chennai. The aggressive left-hand opener of Australia Matthew Hayden was the brand ambassador of TNPL. Star Sports bought the telecasting rights for 50cr.
Team’s
Eight teams from various places in Tamilnadu are chosen to play TNPL.
Format
The teams will be playing T20 games in a round-robin format. only the top four teams will be moved onto the next round. 1 and 2 will be fighting for a place in the finals which is a qualifier. 3 and 4 for the eliminator. The loser of the qualifier and winner of the eliminator will be having a contest to get 2nd place in the final. The winner will be decided in the finals.
Points
The winner of the match gets 2 points. Teams with the same points on the table their net run rate will be taken into account.

Narayan Jagadeesan 1240 runs in the TNPL tournament.
Sai Kishore is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 68 wickets.
Match-fixing
The two co-owner of Tuti Patriots were linked with corruption so TNCA asked the franchise to remove them. Tuti Patriots and Madurai panthers these two teams held in match-fixing with connection to bookies.After investigation allegations proved to be wrong.
Financial Crisis
The letter written and signed by franchises facing financial problems was leaked, later TNCA arranged a meeting with franchise members and discussed the issues some members mentioned not sharing the collection with the franchise, unavailable cricketers of Tamil Nadu who play for team India like Ravi Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik, Murali Vijay and not allowing outstation players when Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla registered to play in TNPL but not allowed, smaller grounds and trait of umpiring was also mentioned. TNCA accepted to share the telecast and the association gained a net of 5cr.
Success
The tournament became a huge success eliciting great talents to the team India. Some players for India didn’t play their first-class cricket they have shown their skills, talents, and technique in this tournament gained their spot in the Indian team and IPL
