Overseas overload – KKR IPL 2022

Introduction :

Kolkata Knight Riders, the Shahrukh Khan owned franchise finished as runners-up last season and transformed themselves into a side to beat over the years. Consistency is the main issue with the franchise, throughout its history. KKR has revamped their side from top to bottom however, they retained a few big names too. KKR retained Sunil Narine, CV Varun, Adre Russel, V Iyer ahead of the auction. Read about: End Of Thala Dhoni Era CSK IPL 2022

KKR Squad :

Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine, Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins, Abhijeet Tomar, Sam Billings, Alex Hales, Ramesh Kumar, Mohammed Nabi, Aman Khan, Umesh Yadav, Nitish Rana, Shivam Mavi, Sheldon Jackson, Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, Rasikh Dar, Chamika Karunaratne, Baba Indrajith, Ashok Sharma, Pratham Singh.

The team looks very solid on paper but it will be interesting to see how well it translates to the pitch as it is oftentimes the main problem for KKR. Shreyas Iyer will captain the side, an interesting plot there as this is only the second time he will captain a side full-time.  KKR will face the title defending CSK in the season opener on 26th March. Probable Starting XI for KKR:

  1. V Iyer,N Rana,S Iyer (C),Sheldon Jackson (WK),A Russel,M Nabi,P Cummins,S Narine,S Mavi,U Yadav,CV Varun.
  1. V Iyer,
  2. N Rana,
  3. S Iyer (C),
  4. Sheldon Jackson (WK),
  5. A Russel,
  6. M Nabi,
  7. P Cummins,
  8. S Narine,
  9. S Mavi,
  10. U Yadav,
  11. CV Varun.

Sam Billings is a very middle-order WK and Batter option for them considering their lower order power. Sadly in a classic KKR fashion, the Overseas options are a little too crowded. You can not leave out Cummins, Russ, and Narine in any XI, hence you have only one overseas slot fill. With the form and experience that M Nabi possesses it is very hard to pick someone else. The formula for success seems to be the same as last season, go hard at the beginning and death overs then choke the opposition with the mystery spinner during middle overs. Honestly, this is a very very common and highly proven strategy so it is safe to say that they pack a punch.
