Everything you need to know about Aircraft and their history

aircraft, pilatus pc-24, corporate jet-5611528.jpg

Everything that flies gaining support from the air is called aircraft. Aircraft propel into the air using static and dynamic lifts of the airfoil(check out what is a lift in aerodynamics)The basic forces of aerodynamics play a vital role in the flight of aircraft(Read: basic aerodynamics of flight). To frame it in simple words, thrust accelerates …

Helicopter – What’s special about blades spinning on top of a tank?

helicopter, apache, military-4372671.jpg

Tracing back history of helicopters  There is a story of Chinese children playing with bamboo flying toys. The year told is about 400 BC that is a long long time..  Certain designs similar to renaissance paintings were found in the renaissance paintings too. Leonardo da Vinci in the early 1480s described vertical flight using an …

Thrust in an Airplane. What exactly is thrust in aerodynamics?

airplane, aircraft, airport-4974674.jpg

The force that moves the aircraft across the skies is called thrust. Thrust comes into action when the weight of the aircraft as well as the drag affects the motion of the aircraft. Still, confused? Go ahead and read the articles on Drag in aerodynamics. Thrust is the only force that moves forward whereas the …

The history of Aerodynamic laws – Journey from a bathtub, an apple tree to modern planes everything you need to know!

airplane, aircraft, airline-145889.jpg

Tracing back the history of Aerodynamics The branch of dynamics that is reliant on the study of the motion of air is called aerodynamics. Right-back in the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC, Aristotle and Archimedes(the bathtub guy obviously), had their hands work on the fundamental concepts of aerodynamics. The quantitative theory only began when Isaac …

Aerodynamics the best of physics

Aerodynamics

Aerodynamics comes from the Greek words, ἀήρ aero (air) + δυναμική (dynamics). The study of the motion of air when it is subjected to a solid object is called aerodynamics. In general, it can be stated as the study of gases in motion. However, when we think about aerodynamics the first thing that pops up in our head is a picture of an airplane, it found to be applied in various applications such as designing automobiles and trains, etc. Also if interested you can read more about aviation here on my author page.

Drag in Aerodynamics

plane, aircraft, transport-3093859.jpg

What is drag? The drag in aerodynamics can be defined as an opposing force on the motion of the aircraft. Every part of the aircraft, along with the engine is found to produce drag.  This mechanical force is not formed due to a force field(gravitational field or electromagnetic field). The force field arises even when …
