Is this ‘the year’? for RR- IPL 2022

RR preview IPL 2022

Introduction :

The inaugural IPL champions will start their IPL 2022 campaign on the 29th of March against the 2016 Champions Sunrises Hyderabad. SRH has a stronger overall squad on paper compared to other teams but RR on the other hand has very balanced starting XI players. But the replacements are questionable, to say the least. Last year when Sanju’s RR took on KL’s Punjab he hit a humongous 100 which in itself showed what was coming later that season.

Last season RR was brave, fearless in their attitude they kept attacking both with the bat and ball. It would be interesting whether they can pull it off this season too with a fairly different squad of players. But the characters didn’t change in the sense they have the same kind of mentality within the squad. Sanju Samson is one of the IPL’s own brainchild and to watch him progress through the rankings is refreshing and gives us a lot of satisfaction. Read about IPL 2022 Schedule, Group, Time Table, Venue, And Match List.

Since Ben Stokes and Archer pulled out this season due to injury & mental health issues. RR picked a different side in the auction. So there is actually room for more versatile options in their overseas department. Read about CSK’s Team here : End Of Thala Dhoni Era CSK IPL 2022.

RR Probable Starting XI :

1600x960 23248 ipl 2022
  1. Jos Buttler, ** (WK)
  2. Yashasvi Jaiswal,
  3. Devdutt Padikal, **
  4. Sanju Samson, (C)
  5. Shimron Hetmyer,
  6. Riyan Parag,
  7. Nathan Coulter-Nile,
  8. R Ashwin,
  9. Trent Boult,
  10. Yuzvendra Chahal,
  11. Prasidh Krishna.

** Buttler might be dropped down to number 5, a role which he used to play until 2019 by making way for Devdutt to open the innings. But if at all they are pulling that move, I personally wish to see Riyan opening. It gives a right-hander option and will be more complementing to Yashasvi’s role as both Devdutt and Yashsavi are known to struggle against quality spinners.

RR have a very long tail of almost 3 number 11s but unless the strong top5 fail in the same match is heavily unlikely any one of them will get to face even a single ball. Overall looks balanced in both aggression and defensively as well. The bowling department looks very very balanced with 2 high-quality spinners Ashwin and Chahal operating in the middle. Prasidh Krishna and Trent boult will be one of the feared opening pairs and the pace of Krishna and the magic of Boult’s swing will bamboozle any top order. Death bowling is heavily reliant on Coulter Nile. Prasidh Krishna’s death bowling will be tested heavily tested this year too.
